Over the past few months, much has been said about how various groups would use 3D printing technology. Well, here is a very interesting application. CNET reports that the Smithsonian plans to create a series of 3D-printed models, exhibits, and scientific replicas–as well as generate a digital archive of 3D models of many of the physical objects in its collection. While maybe not the “killer app” proponents are looking for, this is certainly an important application for 3D printing.
Interesting! I think it is really cool that 3D printing has allowed the world to come together in a way. If 3D printing is used around the world, then famous works could be viewed almost everywhere. I will make sure to keep following this topic and see how it changes within the next five years.
