In a few weeks, May 2 through May 6, the Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) conference will be held in Orlando, Fla. The additive manufacturing industry played a major role in developing needed supplies during the early days of the COVID pandemic. As U.S. businesses make efforts to return to pre-pandemic operation, you’ll see more in-person events, such as this conference.

The Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) is a global community focused on accelerating the education and advancement of additive manufacturing and 3D printing. I have been fortunate enough to attend this event for many years. It truly is unique, unlike any conference, tradeshow, or exposition you have ever attended.

The AMUG association that develops the conference is a member-run, not-for-profit enterprise. More than 100 companies participate as sponsors and exhibitors at this event.

Perhaps one of the better benefits of attending this conference is you interact with so many experienced additive manufacturing users who willingly answer questions on how to make the most of additive technology. The conference is structured to give you plenty of opportunities to connect. Networking is a key element of this conference and is always encouraged. The unique immersive interaction available at the conference is about creating a community that helps each other and that expands the use of this technology.

Each day of the conference begins with a general session presentation. This year, Dr. Jonathan Morris of the Mayo Clinic will share the outcomes of a 16-year journey to achieve Point of Care Manufacturing. For the Innovators Showcase, Dr. Hans Langer will be interviewed in a fire-side chat format. There will also be a review of AM activities and trends across the globe.

AMUG will also offer a newly announced pre-conference course on the agenda. SME/ToolingU is offering a two-day AM Technician Certification program (instruction plus exam).

If that wasn’t enough, there will be 61 sessions across ten topic tracks. Diamond and Platinum sponsors plan on bringing updates and information on their technologies and materials.
